ANNA SCAIFE
Creative director & founder of the jewellery brand Anna Lou of London est 2004 and Co-founder / executive producer of Anna Lou and Friends
Anna Lou & Friends is a fictional cartoon produced by Anna Scaife and Sonoko Obuchi.
We have been working together for 15 years and after having some of our 5 children experience some emotional and mind health hurdles to overcome we decided to create books and a TV show to help other children.
Anna now works from her studio on the beautiful Taggs Island in Hampton Court, where she lives with her 3 children and a Wippet called Chase.
Brief History:
Born in 1977 and moving to London at 17 she was an early entrepreneur. At the age of 10 she sold ice creams from a cart to the passengers of her families hot air balloon business. In 2004 she sold jewellery on Portobello Market known for it's quirky shops, street traders and lots of tourists ( aka customers!) and the original Anna Lou studio was located at Westbourne Park nr Notting Hill Gate where the styles were created and hand crafted on site.
3 months later Anna Lou of London jewellery was being sold in Harrods, Liberty, Topshop, ASOS and Selfridges in UK. Over the next couple of years the brand was being stocked in international department stores such as Isetan, United Arrows, Hankyu, Takashimaya ( Tokyo), Henri Bendel, W Hotels ( New York), Sauce ( Dubai) Le Bon Marche and Printemps ( Paris).
2007- Collaboration with the high street store Reiss nationwide. Anna Lou launches a collection of jewellery for Disney for the launch of the Alice in Wonderland movie.
2008 - The first Anna Lou shop opened in Newburgh Street off Carnaby Street.
The Anna Lou of London concession opens in Selfridges
2009 - Collaboration with Reiss and Anna does her first QVC shopping channel show in the UK and then follows with Tokyo one.
2010 - Annas first child Wilbur was born so she decided to only sell online via the Anna lou website and Not on the High Street website. She wanted a piece of jewellery that had her sons initials to keep with her at all times. She started to create more personalised jewellery pieces when her two other children Buzz and Esme were born.
Her children are one of her main influences but London/Tokyo and the island where HQ Anna Lou is based has a huge impact on her creations.
She never went to fashion school and never learned the traditional ways of building a business and this is the first TV shows she's created. She's never even had a real full time job before I went from selling on the street to opening my own company. There have been alot of challenges along the way!
